Seminar Description
This seminar traces the legal history of due process hearings, and describes how school district personnel can build strong defensible programs and paperwork. Participants will learn strategies to avoid due process, strategies for dealing with conflict and what to do if you need to testify.

Learning Outcomes
Participants will understand the legal foundation for due process proceedings in special education.
Participants will be able to identify legal responsibilities under IDEA 2004 related to parent and student rights.
Participants will outline strategies to avoid due process conflicts.
Participants will apply case decisions to their own job.

All participants that successfully complete this module will receive a certificate of attendance (2 clock hours). Authorization from your individual school district or organization prior to enrollment is recommended.

Dr. Barbara J. Moore-Brown, CCC-SLP is the director of Special Youth Services for Anaheim Union School District and former director of special and alternative education in the El Rancho Unified School District in Pico Rivera, California, where she directs special education and child welfare programs. She has been president of the California Speech-Language-Hearing Association (CSHA), the Public School Caucus (PSC), and the Council for State Association Presidents (CSAP) and has been a representative from California to the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) Legislative Council. Barbara is the co-author of “Making a Difference for America's Children”. |
