Seminar Description

This seminar explores two different types of organizational skills: static and dynamic and breaks the concept of dynamic organizational skills into 10 concrete steps and reviews an educational strategy for a number of steps of this process.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this seminar, the participant will:

Assess their own organizational structures so that they can better offer support to others.

Define the difference between static and dynamic organizational skills.

Identify a strategy for helping students to explore their own motivation towards approaching complex tasks.

Describe the 10-step model to understand the deeper organizational skills and support each step with an instructional strategy.

Write 3 IEP goals to support addressing deeper organizational issues in our schools.

Define a time in their school and/or home day where they can incorporate some aspects of direct organizational instruction with their students.

Continuing Education Credit and Certificate of Attendance

All participants that successfully complete this module will receive a certificate of attendance (2 clock hours). Authorization from your individual school district or organization prior to enrollment is recommended.

National CEU is approved by the Continuing Education Board of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) to provide continuing education activities in speech-language pathology and audiology. About The Presenter(s)

Michelle Garcia Winner
Michelle Garcia Winner, MA, CCC-SLP is a speech-language pathologist who owns and directs a private practice in San Jose, California, devoted to the needs of students with social cognitive deficits. She has previously worked in medically based neuro-rehabilitation, in public schools and for the Indiana Resource Center for Autism. Ms. Garcia Winner is an internationally recognized workshop presenter who provides critical information about helping students with a user-friendly approach to understanding social cognition and related practical skills. Ms. Garcia Winner has written two books entitled: Inside Out: What Makes The Person With Social Cognitive Deficits Tick (2000) and Thinking About You, Thinking About Me (2002). The Gray Center also recently produced a video/DVD of Michelle’s work. Michelle’s goal is to help educators and parents appreciate how social thinking and social skills are an integral part of students academic as well as social experiences and that we can all do far more to help our students learn these abstract lessons.
