Seminar Description
Legal requirements and advances in the scientific research base of assessment and intervention mean evolution in how speech and language services are provided in schools. This seminar reviews the influences impacting this evolution including legislative, educational trends and hot topics, constructs about disability and other converging influences.

Learning Outcomes
Participants will discuss the legal foundation for changes in service delivery.
Participants will identify beliefs and actions within the educational system that are conducive to mandates to support the needs of all learners.
Participants will discuss strategies to adapt to the demands of No Child Left Behind (NCLB) and the IDEA 2004.
Participants will apply models of service delivery to their own job.
Continuing Education Credit and Certificate of Attendance
All participants that successfully complete this module will receive a certificate of attendance (2 clock hours). Authorization from your individual school district or organization prior to enrollment is recommended.
National CEU is approved by the Continuing Education Board of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) to provide continuing education activities in speech-language pathology and audiology. Dr. Barbara J. Moore-Brown, CCC-SLP is the director of Special Youth Services for Anaheim Union School District and former director of special and alternative education in the El Rancho Unified School District in Pico Rivera, California, where she directs special education and child welfare programs. She has been president of the California Speech-Language-Hearing Association (CSHA), the Public School Caucus (PSC), and the Council for State Association Presidents (CSAP) and has been a representative from California to the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) Legislative Council. Barbara is the co-author of “Making a Difference for America's Children”. |
